In 1990 the United Nations General Assembly declared October 1 to be the International Day of the Elderly. Neoumanist celebrated with concerts, recitals, and words from special guests.

Among the honored guests were Basjan Dane, chairman of the organization NADHAM in the Netherlands, Constantin Priguza, mayor of Straseni, Ala Miron, President of the Veteran’s Association of Moldova, and Gheorghe Calmîş, President of the Veterans Association of Straseni. (more…)

workshop

Ecaternia Bulicanu from Neoumanist attended the first in a series of workshops called Visibility through Communication on September 26-27. The goal of this workshop was to teach NGOs how to develop and lead communication campaigns. Participants were taught methods for developing campaign strategies and worked in teams to put these strategies into practice. (more…)

During the months of August and September Neoumanist Association launched a fundraising and awareness company titled Young at Heart, which allowed us to honor the elderly on International Day of the Eldery, celebrated October 1, with a concert, sweets, a special meal, and gifts. (more…)

retreat at la popasretreat at la popasACASA, a network of organizations benefitting the elderly of Moldova, held a retreat for the elderly from different member centers around Moldova. Five beneficiaries from Neohumanist Association participated in the retreat, held at La Popas Retreat Center in Dubasari along the banks of the Dniester River. Overall 58 elderly beneficiaries attended the retreat, which focused on forming frienships, enjoying nature, relaxation, and improvinig health and spirit. We hope to organize retreats for a larger number of beneficiaries in the future. (more…)

Teresas

Teresa Smiley is from the state of Indiana in the USA. She is a Peace Corps volunteer and has worked with Neohumanist for 18 months. During this time she applied for grant through the USAID Small Projects Assistance Fund (SPA Grant).

The goal of the grant was to improve our Conference Services Center. With the money from the grant, our organization purchased an LCD projector, screen, and laptop. (more…)

Tineke and  Jeike Beiwenga visited Neoumanist Association in the beginning of Septmeber. It was a short visit in which the volunteers were acquainted with the projects of the organization. They went with the Home Care team one day and visited beneficiaries at their homes, monitored the team’s work, and participated in the team’s activities. (more…)

September 1st: The begining of  a new school year. For the first-graders, it is the first chapter in their long school careers. The first-graders of the Gymnasium Internat, a state-run orphanage, in Straseni were very excited about their first teacher and their first schoolbook.

Beneficiaries of Rasarit Day Center wished to share in this excitement and surprised the students with small gifts. From their small pensions, the elderly helped to purchase gifts of school supplies the 17 first-graders. The children didn’t expect gifts, and gratitude could be read in faces. (more…)

reparation

Summer means holidays at the sea, in the mountains, or in the spa, and … in Moldova, repairs. In August when a part of the Neoumanist staff were at the sea the others began repair work on the offices at  and beneficiaries’ rooms at Spectru Home for the Elderly. To save money on the cost of labor, the staff, from the executive director to the nurses, worked hard on the repairs. (more…)

A team is stronger than the sum of the individuals that make it. Each member of the teams brings individual experience and perspectives. Most people understand this concept, but it is important to re-evaluate individuals’ roles, strengths, weaknesses, and potentials from time-to-time.

The administration at Neoumanist recognizes the need for re-evaluation and team building. A team building session was presented in August by Haiducii, an outdoor leadership organization comprised of Peace Corps Volunteers. This organization has held trainings and workshops throughout Moldova for three years. (more…)

The money is already on NEOUMANIST account and we appreciate this deed very much.
