Rasarit Day Care Centre for Elderly Citizens began in 2003, in the town of Straşeni, 25 km away from Chisinau, and the capital of Moldova.
It aims to serve the elderly, the most vulnerable category of the population, and specifically those who are alone, sick or physically disabled, and cannot cater for themselves.
The centre provides the elderly with a public kitchen for a meal and offers laundry and public bath services. The centre also provides social activities and trainings.
There are 15-25 elderly a day who come to the centre and spend time together. A range of activities are offered such as TV, indoor games, handicrafts, music, sports, entertaining programs, competitions, and performances. They can also take part in various interest clubs including chess, knitting, humor, poetry, etc.
The centre assists over 300 elderly citizens a year, and is increased steadily over the last five years.
